Checkout is the last thing guests remember. Long lists of chores can sour a lovely stay, while clear, reasonable instructions help your changeover and leave a good final impression. Here is what to ask for, what to skip and a template to adapt.

In this guide

Keep it reasonable

Guests increasingly push back on long checkout chore lists, especially when they are also paying a cleaning fee. Ask for the things that genuinely help your changeover, such as bins and the dishwasher, and leave the cleaning to your cleaners.

The template

We hope you have had a wonderful stay! Checkout is by [time]. Before you go, please:

  • Load and start the dishwasher
  • Take bins and recycling to [location]
  • Switch off the heating, lights and any appliances
  • Close and lock windows and doors
  • Leave used towels in the bath or shower
  • Return the key to [key safe / location] and scramble the code

Something broken or not working? Let us know so we can fix it before the next guests. No problem at all.

End on a high

Add a warm thank-you, a gentle review prompt, and, for guests who booked with you directly, an easy way to come back. In Welcomly the checkout section can include your Book again direct button, which you can turn on or off depending on how guests booked and the platform’s rules. See direct bookings.

Make it easy to find

Put checkout instructions in your guest guide and send a short reminder the evening before departure. A digital guide keeps them a tap away on guests’ phones.
